This baby bat is an Australian black flying fox (Pteropus alecto). One of the largest bat in the world with a wingspan of over a meter. This bat is almost completely black in color, relieved only by an incomplete rusty-red collar and a light frosting of white-tipped hairs on the abdomen. Sometimes these bats have a reddish-brown eye-ring, and the lower leg is un-furred.

In this video, you will see the teeth of this cuddly little bat while it is beeing fed.

Can you imagine how it will look when it is already full grown? Looks scary but you don’t have to worry about it because you are not part of this bat’s diet.

The black flying fox only eats fruits.

Thousands of these bats can be seen during daytime, in huge, noisy colonies amongst the treetops. Come dusk, vast numbers clutter the darkening night sky as they fly off in search of food, shrieking as they go.
