Drunk driving poses serious threat not just to oneself but also to innocent civilians around. So when a drunk driver went on a driving spree, one police officer did the most insane thing to prevent others from being injured even if it cost his own life.
Meet State Trooper First Class Roy Moomey of Arkansas.
Officer Mooney responded to a report that a drunk driver was traveling down the interstate in the wrong direction and at a high speed.
According to Officer.com, there’s “no particular standard practice for intercepting a vehicle driving on the wrong side of the interstate.”
So when he spotted the reported vehicle, he realized that the only way to stop the crazy driver is to drive his own car head-on.
He was aware that the collision might kill him but it was the best choice at that moment to prevent unnecessary loss of innocent life on the highway.
A state trooper who witnessed the incident said Moomey tried to block the other vehicle as it was heading the wrong way on the interstate. That was when the vehicles collided.
Miraculously, Trooper Moomey survived the violent crash. Sadly, the drunk driver met his end.
He was admitted to the ICU in critical but stable condition. He underwent several surgeries and therapy.
The Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson visited Mooney to thank him for his heroic deed.
Officer Moomey received an award for his devout service.
His family and his community are enormously proud of their hero. If not for officer Moomey, the incident could have end up in disaster.
