Bizarre skeletal remains with just three fingers and three toes could be alien – despite having similarities to humans, scientists claimed.
The mysterious remains, named “Maria” by researchers, were found in Nazca, Peru alongside a nine-month-old baby mummy.
Maria seems to be human, but she is not.
Test reportedly revealed that Maria is indeed a humanoid for having 23 chromosomes just like humans. However, she also has a number of things indicating she is not human either.
Her anatomic structure is different from a typical human being as she only has three long fingers and toes.
Professor Konstantin Korotkov, from the Russian National Research University, says he has also seen four other male mummies found by colleagues in Peru, which date back as far as 6,500 years.
He told Sputnik News: “Each of the little mummies has two arms, two legs, a head, a pair of eyes and a mouth.
“Tomographic scans reveal their skeletons.
“The tissue has biological nature and their chemical composition indicates that they are humans.
“Their DNA features 23 pairs of chromosomes, just like we have.”
“All the four of them are males, each with a Y-chromosome.
“They appear human but they are not.
“Their anatomic structure is different.”
Meanwhile, Gaia.com, a conspiracy theory website has featured videos suggesting the discovery could be a being closely related to humans and still from outer space.
Professor Korotkov appears to agree on Gaia saying, “They could be extraterrestrials or bio robots.
“Maria and [baby] Vavita could have been representatives of a certain race which had possibly reached a stage of advancement much earlier than we did.
“Maybe thousands of years earlier.”
However, Snopes.com questioned the credibility of the discovery, citing that though elongated skulls have been actually found in Peru, experts attribute this to an ancient practice of artificial cranial deformation.
“That elongated skulls are the result of an ancient practice of artificial cranial deformation, in which young children had their heads bound in cloth, rope, or even wooden boards, possibly as part of a religious ritual,” Snopes said.
