Dogs for some, are just pet and for some, they are considered family member. For parents Don and Sam, their dog was sent from above. Another set of eyes to keep their son alive.
The Dog named Dopey is extremely intelligent. He is able to detect when the couple’s 12-year-old son Britton is about to have a seizure.
The son of Don and Sam, Britton was born with a severe form of epilepsy and has to be guarded around the clock. At three months old, Britton was diagnosed with dravet syndrome (it is a rare genetic epileptic encephalopathy; dysfunction of the brain. It begins in the first year of life in an otherwise healthy infant.)
Three years ago he received Dopey as a service dog. Now the two are never apart.
Dopey can open doors, find Britton’s parents when he’s having a seizure and retrieve medicines to stop them.
At night, the two sleeps together and after Britton’s goes in for surgery or when sick, he comforts the boy until he is feeling better.
Because of this, Britton’s mom calls the golden retriever a guardian angel, but for Britton, Dopey is simply his best friend.
The value of Dopey to Britton is immeasurable and their bond is extraordinary. Dopey’s love to Britton expect nothing in return.
