An 8-year-old boy suffering from Waardenburg Syndrome has been mesmerizing people with his bright blue eyes.
Meet Abushe from Jinka, Southern Ethiopia, the boy with the brilliant blue eyes, a condition called Waardenburgh syndrome.
Only 1/300,000 is born with this rare condition, which changes the pigmentation of one’s eyes and it is also known to cause various degrees of deafness.
Abushe lives with his grandmother in a hut made out of adobe, hatch, and wood so he can go to school because parents can’t afford the daily bus ticket.
His red soccer ball is his prized possession. It’s the only thing that he has saved when a fire broke out into his grandparents’ house.
Despite his mesmerizing blue eyes, Abushe’s parents feared that he was blind when he was born and since they are poor, finding treatment is not a priority.
However, after learning more about Abushe’s rare syndrome, his family now considers it a “gift from God.”
Abushe loves to watch Barcelona soccer games whenever possible and his favorite player, who else.. The famous world-famous forward Lionel Mess!
He said, “Messi is just like me. He is not like the others!”
But Abushe often gets bullied by other people because of his eyes. They call him “plastic eyes,” while some calls him “monster” and sometimes they beat him for pleasure.
Becoming a soccer star one day is Abushe’s answer to all the bullying and beating he gets.
Abushe proves that it’s really our differences as people that make us special but his maturity and positive outlook in life is what stood a lot. We hope that he’ll achieve everything he’s ever dreamed of!
