Vigilantes are on the move in Ganganagar, India and they will show no mercy towards sex offenders. There has been an intolerable increase in offenses against women in the country, including rape, molestation, and violence which has to stop.
Last year, a group of vigilantes had forty-year-old Suresh Kumar’s genitals cut off after trying to assault a young girl. Passers-by heard the victim screaming for fear in an alley while the suspect pinned her against a wall and tried to force himself into her.
Fortunately, the alleged rapist was seized by a group of men.
But instead calling the authorities, he was dragged away for a community meeting where his verdict was decided.
Kumar was then taken to a butcher shop where he was beaten with sticks for an hour. But his punishment isn’t done yet…
The angry men took a meat clever, chopped off his manhood and threw it in the middle of the street.
Kumar was left bleeding in the street and in a critical condition, but no one showed him mercy.
“No one went to help the man because they could see his penis on the ground and knew this was punishment for a sex crime.” witness Aamir Dhawan said.
“This sends out a very strong message to anyone like that – if you do it you will be punished.” he added.
However, people cannot put the law into their hands.
A local police spokesperson said, “As deplorable as these crimes are law and order has to be maintained and not lynch justice. We ask those men who carried out this attack to hand themselves in before we find them.”
Eventually, the alleged was brought to a hospital while the teenage girl was treated for shock and was given counseling.
Indeed, sexual assaults to women especially to young innocent girls are horrible and should be stopped. Vigilantes arise to this cause, perhaps due to the delay of the justice system. However, in saying that, the rise of these vigilantes might cause chaos, if not controlled, in the community.
